A year ago today (2012) I was in Salem, Massachusetts living it up- a step back in time!
We went right after the Halloween hustle and bustle. We intended on going during Halloween to really soak up the creepy vibe that Salem has to offer- especially that time of year.
However if you do not make reservations long before October, odds are every dang hotel, bed and breakfast and small resort will not have a room to rent you. So if you want to go in October, be sure to plan ahead- way way ahead!
So we had to go in November, which did not really matter because Salem is always decked out with that Halloween like vibe. It is the Witch Trials that truly brought Salem its fame, and naturally why I wanted to go so badly.
I had been there before, once, when I was 12. I remember going through my teen years just wanting, and wishing to live there. I could remember how quaint and perfect it was. I longed to be a part of the community.
As I grew out of my teens though, Salem became a thing of the past. I remember loving it, I remembered how quaint it was, the rows of mom and pop shops, and the delights it offered... but they were vague memories.
Finally last year for my anniversary my other half took me on a 3 day weekend getaway in Salem, and my mind will drift back to it time and time again.
The feeling was the same as when I was 12. The upbeat nature of the sleepy and quaint town in Salem brought me right back to my giddy 12 year old state of mind.
The Stephan Daniels House
We rented a room at The Stephan Daniel's House, and it was perfect. From antique decor, to the awesome inn keepers, and their cats. I loved it, and cannot wait to return! That bed and breakfast literally stole a piuece of my heart, and those who keep it running. Kay- especially- what a gem.
If you are ever in Salem, you must stay here, at least for a night. Our room in particular had a fireplace in it, which kept our room toasty and warm all through the night.
Me & Sabrina- The resident kitty cat who visits you throughout the night
Although this post has nothing to do with any sort of home improvement project- the blog name, This Old House, just reminded me so much of the Daniel's House. The fact that it is also November, and my anniversary is right around the corner, I naturally thought of my trip to Salem.
This creepy little cradle was located in our bathroom. It looked like a creepy little coffin, and just added that extra special bit of creepiness, that I adore!!!!

Ray poking at the fire- this fireplace was in our room, and added a warm ambiance that we loved!
